Ethanol

Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, is one of the most widely used ingredients. Present in many perfumes, treatments for oily skin, or disinfectant gels, it is appreciated for its versatility: it helps to dissolve ingredients, provides a light finish, dries quickly, and limits bacterial development.

The effectiveness of ethanol depends very much on its concentration. At low doses (less than 10%), it is generally well tolerated. But from 20%, side effects can appear, including weakening the skin barrier and increasing the skin’s natural water loss.
